What is the easiest way to clean rain gutters? As Utah gutter cleaning experts, we are well-qualified to answer this question. But, like all experts, we have to start off by saying, “It depends.” Different situations call for different approaches. We aren’t going to leave you with such a vague answer, though. Here are some of the easiest ways we know of to clean your rain gutters.
Question: What is the Easiest Way to Clean Rain Gutters?
Before we tell you the easiest way to clean rain gutters, we need to say something about safety first. As you know, your rain gutters are up pretty high. Anytime you are working above ground level, it’s important to take proper safety precautions. These include:
- Wear gloves and eye protection
- Avoid walking on the roof if at all possible
- Use an extension ladder for tall roofs
- Have someone help you hold the ladder and hand you things
1. Use an extension on your leaf blower.
Leaf blowers work pretty well for cleaning out gutters as long as it’s dry out. While you can climb up on the roof and walk along the edge with the leaf blower, it’s safer to use an extension. Some kits allow you to add a curve to your blower nozzle to reach the gutter.
2. Try a pressure washer with a u-shaped attachment.
Pressure washers are strong enough to clean out rain gutters even if the debris are wet. But, like leaf blowers, it’s best to use an attachment to change the direction of the output. That way, you can stand on a ladder and avoid walking on the roof.
3. Use a wet/dry vac.
Wet vacuums can often handle the job of cleaning out the gutters. Even if you don’t use the vacuum to clean the gutters out directly, you can use it to clean up the debris afterward.
Note: Don’t forget to clean the downspout!
All the gutter cleaning in the world is not enough if you don’t clean the downspout. You can use one of your tools, like the power washer, to clear out the downspout. Or, you can use a water hose. Just make sure water runs freely before you call it a day.
