As spring approaches, homeowners can expect warmer weather and new greenery from their landscapes. There’s a lot to look forward to in spring – but there’s also a lot to prepare for. It’s important to prepare your gutters for spring so they can protect your home. A little attention now can prevent bigger problems later on.
Prepare Your Gutters for Spring – Tips and Tricks
There are a few things you can do to prepare your gutters for spring. These include:
1. Trim trees to keep branches from touching and/or overhanging your roof.
Keeping your gutters clean is easier when there is less debris falling on your roof. If it makes sense to do so, consider trimming branches that overhang your roof. It’s best to talk to a tree care company if the branches are very big. But if they are smaller, you can trim them back from your home a bit.
Winter is an excellent time to trim trees, so try to get this task done sooner rather than later.
2. Clean your gutters.
Between the snow and the falling debris, gutters can fill up over the winter. As spring arrives, cleaning your gutters will prepare them for the upcoming rains. There are several different ways to clean your gutters, as we have covered in other posts. Ideally, we encourage you to contact us and employ our gutter cleaning services. It’s safer and more effective to have professionals to it.
3. Install gutter guards.
If you really want to avoid gutter cleaning, we have a great idea for you – install gutter guards! Gutter guards, also called leaf guards, are designed to prevent debris from entering your gutters. They allow water to pass through but keep leaves and other debris out. A high-quality gutter guard that is correctly installed can help you avoid cleaning your gutters very often.
There are multiple grades of leaf guards, ranging from quality to premium. The higher quality the gutter guard, the better it is at keeping debris out without clogging.
Gutter guards do require maintenance every year or so just to keep them running perfectly, but it’s much less work than cleaning out your gutters multiple times a year. It’s also safer.
